The Best Of HK-47

It has been a while since I played KoToR. And while waiting for Star Wars The Old Republic to be released, let's remember the good times we had with HK-47. Err.. sort of.

HK-47: "Answer: Simply that the distinction between 'killer' and 'killee' be a clear one. I cannot kill of my own volition, naturally."
Revan: "I don't think 'killee' is a word."
HK-47: "Expletive: Damn it, master, I am an assassination droid... not a dictionary!"

Battlefield 1943 - It's been a long year after 1942

Well since our ace shooter is away for a few weeks (because of work) I’m here to take over the review of Battlefield 1943. Yerp, you read that right. EA is back again with their multiplayer only warfare since 1942 (the game, not the year of course).

The number of players have been downsize from 64 to 24. Why? I have no idea. It’s probably the upgrade of the in game physics such as blowing up the environment, or my personal favorite; blowing up walls to make a door. The game uses the Frostbite engine which we met before in Battlefield: Bad Company.

To be honest, I’m a noob in FPS games. However, I really like World War games (Medal of Honor Series, Battlefield 1942) and I look at this as a sign for me to make a return to FPS games. The problem is, this time, I’m equipped with DS3 (The PS3 Controller). In the 30 minutes, I couldn’t get a shot even though the enemy is right in front of me. The solution? Crouch. You’ll have better aiming and accuracy this way. (I know this is noob stuff. Damn you, recoil..)

There are 2 factions, the US Marine Corps and the Japanese Imperial Army and there are only 3 classes, just to simplify things. You’ve got the Scout (also count as the sniper), the Infantry (SMG and anti-tank) and the Rifleman (anti aircraft and infantry). There are also vehicles that you can use to take advantage on the battlefield such as Tank, Airplane, Boat and Jeep. Once you’re in control of the Airfield, you can call some Bombers to launch an air raid.

There 3 maps currently, Wake Island, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal (read: sniper heaven). Just remember, if you're tired of running, hitch a ride.

Overall, it’s a fun game to play with your friends and headshot them. Yeah, tough love. I just can’t wait for 4th map to unlock. Air Superiority podewin.
Battlefield 1943 is already available for 360 and PS3 for 1200 MS Points/US$14.99. Coming soon for PC in September.

Trine

I promised you a review of Prototype vs. Infamous, but here’s the thing. I don’t like Prototype. So that would make my review of the game biased. But still, it’s definitely one hell of a game.

So instead, I’m bringing you Trine, a beautiful action/puzzle/platformer video game by Frozenbyte.

When I think of platformer, the first game I would think of is Prince of Persia (classic) and this is something like that. Hands on the demo, I was a bit skeptical at first. I mean, hey, this is 2009, platformers are dead. But surprise surprise, I get hooked up the moment I first play it.

There are three characters in Trine; the wizard, the thief and the knight. Seems basic right? But here’s the catch, you get to use all three at once. Well sort of, you switch characters with a press of a button. In order to solve puzzles or bypass an obstacle, you got use your characters wisely. The wizard has this power to create a box out of thin air and can levitate certain stuff. The thief is a fast and agile character using a whip (rope?) to climb and get to the unreachable places. While the knight is your basic tank and spank; slashing through an army of undead without fear – if you use blocking maneuver accurately.

Just like LittleBigPlanet, the physics of this game is something to be lookout for. For example, as a wizard, you can lift a box and drop it on a floor to open up an alternative route. Or.. pull a rock off the ledge to be drop upon an army of undead. Let just say, to complete puzzles, you really need to think outside the box.
The introduction to Trine is quite splendid. The narration fits perfectly with the story, and the voice casts for the characters are simply enjoyable.

Trine is available on Steam ($30) on the 3rd of July and on PSN ($20) ??.

Updated by eD: It seems it's gonna be later than I thought.

What Are We Playing - June Edition

eD – This is a great month for video games. So many game and dlc, you can bet we’ll playing our ass off. For me, I’ll be playing the Action/Sandbox/Superhero genre. Yes, Infamous for PS3 and Prototype for PC (because I’m a cheapskate who doesn’t want to buy another PS3 game in the same month). A review is coming up later this month, if I’m up to it.

Sheentj – Let there be Sims 3. So much to do, so many things to achieve, so little time before my sims age and die.And I’m loving it. The only thing which quite a nuisance is to get the special item like DeathFish, Life Fruit and Ambrosia Recipe. I guess it’s back to grinding skills. This does seem familiar to an online game I played before. Hurm…

Rexx – Damn you eD. After watching FFVII Advent Children Complete at your house, I’ve been dying to meet Tifa again .. and play FF7 of course. My old PSX is busted so my last resort is playing emulator on my PC.

MadCat – There’s a spy in the house of love.. Oh wait, that’s me. Major updates to my favourite games this month. Sniper & Spy Update for Team Fortress 2 is awesome and too bad you guys are busy with other games. Meanwhile, if you’re doing some FPS on the PS3, don’t forget to checkout Killzone 2 - “Flash and Thunder” DLC. It’s gonna be a blast from the past. P/s: Don’t forget to watch Transformers – Revenge of the Fallen this month. Autobots, transform and rollout.

The Beatles - Rock Band

Beatlemania is coming back in 2009, and it's all because of Harmonix. After seeing the E3 debut trailers, (videos in full post, just click "Read More..") I just can't wait to get my hands on this game.

And here is the Intro video.

And of course, it's Harmonize features. You gotta have your band mates sing as well or have two backup singers instead.

eD – I’m taking a break from WoW. That’s why you don’t see me online for awhile. But I’m not taking a break from games. Warhammer’s next big patch is coming up so I’m grinding my slayer all the way to the end game. Da shame

WoW on the iPhone

Ever since Blizzard posted that they’re hiring Mobile Games Developer, I have the slightest hope that one day there will be WoW for mobile phone. And now, this vid showing WoW for iPhone seems like a dream come true.

Is it real? Is it fake? Only time will tell.

Give me iPhones and I’ll give you Altair

Gameloft has released their version of assassin game called “Assassin’s Creed: Altair’s Chronicles”, under the license from Ubisoft Entertainment. You’ll once again reprise your role as the master assassin, Altair and journey your way into the heart of Jerusalem to find “The Chalice”.

If you’re not new in the iPhone gaming scene, you’ll probably find it familiar using the touch and tap controls. You can choose to fight in close combat with your sword and dagger or fight with your grappling hooks and bombs. It took me quite awhile to master certain combos and nail it.

Graphic wise, it’s awesome. It’s like seeing God of War on the PSP. Some people saying that it’s much better than the DS version *looking at you IGN*.

You can find it on your iTunes Store (yes, including Malaysia) right now for $9.99 for iPhones and iPod Touch.

What Are We Playing - April Edition

eD – I’m a little busy over the weekends but I manage to sneak in a lil bit especially after World of Warcraft Patch 3.1. Ulduar anyone?

Sheentj – Shh.. don’t tell eD I took his iPhone. Having an excellent time with iPhone games (iBowl, Crash Bandicoot Kart.. etc..) Too bad we don’t have Metal Gear Solid in Malaysia iTunes store.

Rexxdelarocha – Hell yeah, I’ve finally bought Wrath. But I’m gonna powerlevel my level 55 druid to 80 first. Resto 4 life, baby.

Al – What took you so long Rexx? My Shaman has just reached 80 and he’s now looking for an all-hardcore raiding guild. Well, maybe not too hardcore.

Mr. Horny (aka Bomoh Jawa) – Wassup b*tches. Oops.. too harsh. While I’m away (offshore), I have all the time with sexy Sheba (RE5) but now that I’m home,  I’m spending my time with the missus. Catcha later, hommies.

Mad Cat – Boom! Headshot! I’m all about Killzone 2 multiplayer. I’m gonna have a good time killing u guys. Muahahaha.

End of the world: Tabula Rasa

It is always sad to see an MMO world end. It’s like the virtual Armageddon, with all the regrets of “Why the hell did I buy this game”. But it’s just not Tabula Rasa. Soon other MMOs will fall, even our beloved World of Warcraft. Heck, I even predicted the end of Azeroth in Dec 2012. Heh.
Anyway, the last moment in Earth(insert a number here) was recorded. See the videos after the jump.

Street Fighter IV - The Tournament

The Street Fighter IV Tournament Malaysia in Cineleisure Damansara was such a blast. It was, until they watched "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li" of course. Well, forget about the movie. This tournament was much more worth watching than the movie.

At 11 am, it was already crowded with people. The numbers of participants were approximately 100 gamers and were split into ten brackets. To my surprise, there’s a lot of Zangief user here rather than the usual Ryu/Ken fanboys.

RIP: Electronic Gaming Monthly

Ziff Davies has sold 1Up to UGO Entertainment which also means the end of Electronic Gaming Monthly, a magazine that each members of Gamer Malaya read at some point of their lives.

I could say stuffs like "this is an outrage" or "why god why" but the truth is that I haven't read a single issue of EGM in more than a year. EGM was the only magazine I trust when it comes to video games rating. Except that they have the tendency to overrate sports game and Resident Evil series.

So bye bye EGM. You'll be missed.
